There are a number of publications that are designed to help public managers become more effective leaders and managers.  The links on this page will make it easy for you to subscribe to some of the best ones--many of them for free.  GovLeaders.org does not accept any commissions for helping recruit subscribers for these publications, and simply provides the information here as a service to our readers.

  • Bob Behn's Performance Leadership Report

    Professor Behn, Director of the Driving Government Performance course at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, writes an engaging and pithy article each month that is available both online and via email subscription.  The articles generally focus on performance leadership and performance measurement issues for public managers.

  • The Washington Post On Leadership

    The online version of The Washington Post has an excellent "On Leadership" page, which includes numerous articles about, interviews with, and videos of senior government managers.

  • Government Executive Magazine

    Government Executive is a superb online magazine that provides policy and management information that is useful to managers who work for (or with) the Federal Government.  You can subscribe to daily site updates via any one of several GovExec.com e-Newsletters

  • Governing Magazine

    Governing magazine is designed for state and local government officials.    Governing.com has numerous free daily e-Newsletters about targeted subjects.

  • ICMA Leadership Matters

    Excellent free newsletter from the International City/County Managers Association, which features links to excellent leadership articles from many sources that are relevant to public managers.
