Subscriptions for Government Managers
There are a number of publications that are designed to help public managers
become more effective leaders and managers. The links on this page will make
it easy for you to subscribe to some of the best ones--many of them for free. GovLeaders.org does not accept any
commissions for helping recruit subscribers for these publications, and
simply
provides the information here as a service to our readers.
Government-Specific Publications
Government Executive is a superb bi-weekly magazine that
provides policy and management information that is useful to managers who
work for (or with) the Federal Government. A
print subscription of
Government Executive is available for
free to qualified professionals. If you do not qualify for the free
print edition, you can still receive daily site updates via any one of several
GovExec.com e-Newsletters.
The full content of the magazine is available online, but not until the
print version has been out for 15 days.
In March 2005, Post/Newsweek Tech Media,
launched a new magazine for government managers called
Government Leader. The plan to publish stories about "how
public workers are getting extraordinary things done in government." GovLeaders.org has no affiliation with the new magazine, but we think it
will be an excellent addition to the literature on public sector
leadership. Free subscriptions are available to qualified public managers.
Governing magazine is an excellent monthly magazine designed for state
and local government officials. Governing provides a limited number of
free subscriptions for qualified state and local officials (career,
appointed and elected). Other U.S. residents may subscribe for $19.95
per year. Governing.com also has a
free daily e-Newsletter.
Professor Behn, Director of the Driving Government Performance course at
the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, writes an insightful and pithy
monthly article each month that is available both online and via email
subscription. The articles generally focus on performance management
issues
for public managers.
Founded over 30 years ago, The Public Manager is the only journal
of its kind in which public managers and executives write and share ideas
about critical public management issues. They welcome article submissions
by those who have insights that would be of use to practitioners of public
management. Published quarterly,
subscriptions are available for $46.00 per year (members of the
American Society for Public Administration and Young Government Leaders are eligible for a discount).
